Eugene Vindman

Dale City resident Eugene Vindman is running for the 7th Congressional District seat in 2024.

Fundraising numbers are in for the crowded and competitive races to replace outgoing members of Congress in the 7th and 10th districts, signaling which candidates have momentum heading into early voting beginning May 3.

In the 7th District, Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat, is stepping down to run for Virginia governor in 2025. Rep. Jennifer Wexton, also a Democrat, is stepping down in the 10th District due to health issues. Those are considered the two most competitive congressional races in Virginia in 2024, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

10th District

Del. Dan Helmer

Del. Dan Helmer, D-Fairfax County, announced his campaign for Virginia's 10th Congressional District seat.

Leading in fundraising for the Democrats’ crowded 10th District primary is Del. Dan Helmer of Fairfax County, a U.S. Army veteran who was first elected in 2019 and led the House Democratic Caucus' campaign effort this fall, which resulted in Democrats picking up three seats and regaining control of the chamber.

Helmer raised $1,113,778 between the reporting period of Jan. 1 through March 31. “Democracy champions across America want a fighter in Congress who will stand up to MAGA extremists and deliver on progressive priorities,” Helmer said in a news release. “I’m honored that thousands of those champions have placed their faith in me to be that fighter, and they embody the tremendous energy and momentum of our movement.”

Behind Helmer was defense contractor Krystle Kaul, who raised $930,070.

Loudoun County lawyer and businessman Mike Clancy led Republicans in fundraising, bringing in $347,161. Clancy, who in the past unsuccessfully sought the party’s nomination in the district, was followed in fundraising by retired military officer Alex Isaac Jr., who raised $124,910.

7th District

Eugene Vindman, a former Army colonel and senior White House ethics official who was a whistleblower that sounded the alarm leading to former President Donald Trump’s first impeachment, led Democrats in the 7th District money race. Vindman raised $3,793,506, substantially more than the second-highest fundraiser.

“I am proud of the grassroots support my campaign has received from thousands of passionate Virginians who want to preserve democracy and protect abortion rights,” said Vindman, a Dale City resident. “I was proud to serve my country abroad in uniform and at home by standing up to Donald Trump when he broke the law. The former president’s retaliation cost me my military career. Now my new mission is to take on Trump’s MAGA cronies, to preserve our Democracy, restore trust in government, and fight for Virginia voters.”

Trailing Vindman in second place was Prince William County Supervisor Margaret Franklin, who raised $241,346. “This campaign continues to gain momentum because of my record delivering results for Virginia families,” Franklin said in a statement. “Voters in VA-07 want a candidate who will fight to protect reproductive rights, combat gun violence, and lower costs for families, and that’s exactly what I will do in Congress.”

Prince William County Supervisor Andrea Bailey followed behind Franklin, raising $208,497.

Derrick Anderson, a former Special Forces soldier, led Republicans in the 7th District, raising $888,595. Behind Anderson was Cameron Hamilton, who brought in $499,811.

Republican Hung Cao, a retired Navy captain who previously unsuccessfully ran for the House of Representatives in the 10th District who is now aiming to challenge Kaine, led the party in fundraising. Cao raised $2,032,953, substantially more than the second highest fundraiser Scott Parkinson, who raised $841,133.

Early voting for the June 18 primaries begins May 3, with Haymarket Gainesville Library, the A.J. Ferlazzo Building and the county Office of Elections all open through June 15 for voters to cast ballots. Ballots can also be sent by mail. Genocide Joe

Vindman posed for a picture with a confederate era Virginia flag. Smiling away. Libs don't get it. This guy supports Nazi's in Ukraine and is caught posing with a confederate era flag...no surprise InsideNova didn't cover this. Wouldn't want to hurt their hero at the ballot box.

I'd be curious to know more about that picture. Do you know where it might be located? Feel free to contact me at bohdi12 at yahoo.com

Look at the current state flag.

Master of the Cloud

Americans like Ukraine more than Russia.

Conservatives never get it. That is why they fail.

No one will ever confuse you for a hero.

"Americans like Ukraine more than Russia."

Most Americans are too busy trying to fill up their cars and put food on their table to really care about this year's fruitless proxy war.

Of course Ukraine polls well in NoVA, where a sizable chunk of the population have their livelihoods dependent on perpetual deficit spending and war as opposed to providing things of actual value to the people of the world.

Educated Patriot

Yes. we are all aware you could not hack in NoVA where highly paid professionals live because they want to be around other highly paid professionals (since we can all work from home now).

Gas is cheaper today than it was a decade ago. The US produces more energy today than it ever has in history.

DC doesn't control global energy prices.

Government spending is about a quarter of the US economy. Healthcare, education, technology, aerospace, agriculture, finance, and education all rely on federal support.

I am pretty sure Amazon's AWS and AI provides plenty of real world value. I know Deloitte does.

Since the Virginia state flag was adopted in 1861, when Virginia seceded, the Governor should change it. Thank you joe for pointing out this little factoid that the CURRENT state flag is the same as the CONFEDERATE one.

I am glad you are a scholar of vexillology.

Educated Patriot

Helmer and Vindman will make excellent Congressmen and will fight treasonous wingnuts like Bob Good and MTG. They will protect America in the event Trump somehow gets lucky in the EC (while losing the popular vote for the third time).

Educated Patriots like them make America great. Not MAGA losers!

Genocide Joe

I dare you to go spend some time at a "MAGA losers" rally and then go spend some time at a Hamas riot in the middle of the street with your kids. Then get back to me who the losers are. Sure the young white women at the Hamas rally may be educated but everything they know is wrong.

Master of the Cloud

I'll take Palestine apologists over MAGA January 6th insurrectionists any day of the week.

Us young white educated women have replaced you in the workplace. I bet that makes you mad.
